The Festival

For one weekend a year, the gorgeous Peak District countryside becomes home to the Y Not Festival.

There has been steady, organic growth since it began life as a gathering of young people attending an overspilling house party in deepest, darkest, Derbyshirest, Derbyshire. But it does retain the carefree, good-time atmosphere of those original, dawning years.

The festival is still run by the same small team of passionate enthusiasts it was all those years ago (albeit a little older and a little wiser), but with the same ethos at heart – great people having a great time makes a great festival.

Stunning panoramic views of the countryside, a fully stocked bar of local ales and ciders, a mouth-watering selection of food and more live music than you could ever possibly take in.

All you need to provide is the memories (and a killer fancy dress outfit).

The Bands

Y Not is about music. Well, it’s about having an amazing time outdoors, surrounded by friends, forgetting about spreadsheets or computers or homework or the school run.

But it is about music.

We bill our line up with the Y Notters at the centre. Acts that we know and love and have seen live many times ourselves in most cases and will provide the best possible experience for the weekend.

A melting pot of emerging, established, eclectic, emotional, energetic, expressive and exhilarating live music from every conceivable genre-huge internally renowned artists, under the radar bands and the cream of the crop of local talent. If you don’t come for something you already love, you will find something new to love.

More info early 2017 on how you can apply to play.

Disabled Access

We try and make sure the festival is accessible for everyone. We have disabled toilets, disabled viewing platforms and offer assistance to people who need it. Disabled carers also enter the site for free.

To book Disabled Access tickets and your free carer place, please email [email protected], with your contact details and we will be back in touch to process your order.

If you have any questions or suggestions about how we can make the festival more accessible for you, just drop us an email at [email protected]

Age Restrictions

People of all ages are welcome at Y Not Festival. To ensure their safety, festival goers aged 15 and under must be supervised by an adult (over 21) for the duration of the festival.  If you appear under 16 then you will be asked for ID on the gate, so please remember to bring this with you. For this we accept BLine cards, driving licences, passports or Citizen cards.

A 21+ adult can supervise up to 4 minors at the festival.

We also operate an extremely strict RU25 policy at all onsite festival bars, so please remember your ID if you are lucky enough to look under 25 and would like to receive an adult wristband to allow you to purchase alcohol at the festival.  Please note, we reserve the right to deny access to anyone who cannot produce a valid form of ID.

Passport, Driver’s Licence or Citizen Card are all accepted. We will not accept photocopies of any form of ID.

Children 12 and under go free to the festival but please remember to book a ticket online in advance.

Please be aware, any alcohol brought in by under 18’s will be confiscated at the gate.

Families

We make a huge effort to ensure the festival is accessible and fun for people of all ages.

We have a dedicated quiet family camping area situated a few minutes walk from both the main arena and car park. There are showers and toilets in family camping.

Throughout each day there is loads happening onsite suitable for people of all ages.  We have workshops, a range of activities and performances of most types that you can imagine. Some examples from previous years are: mask and costume making, child-friendly cabaret, sports days, carnivals, hoola hooping and circus skills among many others.

Alcohol

Each person (over 18) can bring alcohol for themselves, but not other people.

The safety and welfare of the festival-goers is the number one priority.
We’re introducing a P.R.O.T.E.C.T welfare policy to make sure we’re still meeting our aims of looking after the young people on site.

Protecting our festival-goers is our biggest priority.

Reducing the risks of underage drinking is critical to achieving this.

Over 18s are allowed to bring enough alcohol on site for themselves. Re-entry with alcohol IS permitted provided it is for you, not for distribution.

Text in – we have set up a text in number so you can let us know discretely if you spot any issues.

Empower the people – we’ve set up Campsite Safety Net, a system that encourages you to look out for your neighbours and report anything you’re unhappy about to a member of the security team.

Care team – we’ve doubled our welfare provision to improve the care and security provision in the campsites. These teams are dedicated to the safety of under U18s

Take action – where Over 18s are found supplying alcohol to under 18s, we will take action. Vulnerable young people are our priority, we take this extremely seriously and we need to do this to protect them. This may result in prosecution by the police.

We work with local breweries and national providers to collate the best possible selection of drinks to complement your festival shenanigans.

Trolley Tots

Bringing little ones along? Leave the pushchair at home and hire a trolley for the weekend! Kids love riding in them and pulling them around. When they’re too tired to keep going, it serves as a great moving bed so you don’t have to miss the festival fun because they’re sleepy. Each hire comes with a blanket and pillow for comfort, a rain/sun cover to keep tots dry or cool whatever the weather brings, and a bike lock for security at night. Visit our website now to prebook your trolley, www.trolleytots.com.

There’ll be plenty of water points surrounding the campsites but make sure you bring a container to fill up (and a bar of soap is also useful)! There’s also mineral water at the bar.

Food stalls

Growing on last year there will be a variety of food stalls catering for all tastes (including vegetarians and vegans). They’ll be open from the crack of dawn right through to the early hours of the morning.

Toilets and Showers

We took home ‘Best Toilets’ at the UK Festival Awards in 2011 so we do our best to keep our toilets nice and clean and lemony fresh (they’re serviced 24 hours a day).  Expect nice loos 🙂

As for showers, the holy grail of the festival experience, there will be a few around but you’ll need your own towel and soap!

Phone Charging

We’re excited to announce we’re teaming up with Power Up to make sure that your phone battery will never be your festival nemesis again! You can book your portable charger now for £15 (inc. £10 deposit)!

This can be collected from the Power Up points in the festival so you can keep your phone fully charged. Once you have used you power bank you can bring it back to either collect a new one for £5 or return yours to reclaim your £10 deposit*.

Book right here: http://www.ynotfestivals.co.uk/power-up/

*Deposit will not be given for any damage to the wire or bank.

As you may know, Y Not prides itself on being as green as possible.  All of the bins on site are part of our recycling initiative so please help us and try to use them effectively.

Life’s a journey – share it! It’s a great way to save money if you are driving and, as it is built around Facebook, you can see if your friends are going, find like-minded people to travel with, and check people out before agreeing to share. So if you’re driving, or need a lift, click here and share the journey! ‘By travelling in a full car, festival-goers carbon emissions become comparable to taking the train…… so it can make a real difference.’ (Source: DEFRA Report)

Share a ride to Y Not this year and we’ll enter you into a competition to WIN A PAIR OF FREE TICKETS FOR NEXT YEAR! Because that’s just the way we roll…
